PORT TOWNSEND — Port Angeles’ Angevine brothers have been unkind to Port Townsend in season openers this season.
Back in September, Nathan Angevine tossed the winning touchdown pass and caught the clinching interception in the Riders’ football win against the Redhawks.
Younger brother Luke Angevine had 21 points to lead all scorers in a 57-49 boys basketball win Wednesday night.
“Luke Angevine stepped up and played a great overall game, offensively and defensively,” new Port Angeles coach Kasey Ulin said.
Lambros Rogers just missed a double-double, with 16 points and nine rebounds for the Roughriders.
“Rogers was solid for us all night,” Ulin said.
Ulin credited the win to a complete team effort.
“Both teams played very hard and it was a great atmosphere for an early season game,” Ulin said.
“Port Townsend is a tough place to play, and I was really happy with how our kids kept their composure during some moments in the second half.”
Freshman Detrius Kelsall led Port Townsend with 12 points and Jacob Ralls added 10.
“I really like the team spirit we are showing already,” Ulin said. “We have a lot of room for improvement, but it’s a great start and I am extremely proud of our kids.”
Port Angeles hosts Chimacum on Friday, Dec. 12, and Port Townsend visits Olympic tonight.

CHIMACUM — Missing some key players due to injury, missed practices and a high school band trip to Hawaii, a less-than-full-strength Class 1A Chimacum squad lost to Class 2A North Kitsap.
“I was happy with our performance in the first half,” Cowboys coach Jim Eldridge said after his team trailed by three after one quarter and by 12 at halftime.
“We faded a bit in the second half. We still pushed and hustled but they had a little too much talent for us.”
Chimacum was lead by Orion Weller’s 12 points. Brendon Naylor chipped in with 10 and John Carthum had seven.
North Kitsap’s 7-foot post Calvin Dennis had 23 to top all scorers.
The Cowboys visit North Mason tonight.
Quilcene 44, Crescent 22
JOYCE — Quilcene doubled up Crescent in the nonleague season opener for each team.
“It was our first game of the year and overall our boys did a great job,” Crescent coach Darren Heaward said.
“We had six players and all played. They all contributed in one way or the other.
“We could have done a better job on the boards.”
KC Spencer led the Loggers with 14 points and Cody Wolfer had three.
Crescent hosts Taholah tonight and Eastside Prep visits Quilcene.
Girls Basketball
Quilcene 60, Crescent 18
JOYCE — Allison Jones scored 20 points to lead three Quilcene teammates in double figures in a season-opening victory against Crescent.
“The entire roster got a lot of minutes in this game, which is critical in molding our younger players and strengthening the team,” Rangers coach Briana Weller said.
Megan Weller scored 14 for Quilcene, most coming on layups after steals.
Freshman Katie Love had 10 points and rebounded well and senior post Sammy Rae had nine points.
Quilcene hosts Eastside Prep tonight at 5:30 p.m.
