TOLEDO — Forks stayed alive in the postseason Saturday with a walkoff sacrifice fly by Ryan Rancourt in the bottom of the eighth inning against Wahkiakum.
The Spartans won 6-5 to take the elimination game against Wahkiakum in the opener of the District 4 2B tournament. The Spartans (9-7) later lost 9-4 to Toledo, but they remain alive in the tournament and will play Napavine on Tuesday.
Forks was within one out of winning, going into the seventh up 5-3, but gave up two-out, two-run double to Wahkiakum.
Forks scored its winning run without getting a hit. With the score tied 5-5 in the eighth, Landin Davis started the rally by getting on base on an error. He moved to second on a passed ball and then tagged up and moved to third on a fly ball by Emmanuel Hernandez-Stansbury. Rancourt then hit a fly ball to center to score Davis.
Landen Olson was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored while Aiden Salazar was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Hernandez-Stansbury had a double.
On the mound, Gunner Rogers pitched 6⅓ innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs. He struck out 10 while walking just one. Olson pitched the final 1⅔, allowing one hit and striking out one to earn the victory.
In the second game, the Spartans were close at 5-4 going in to the bottom of the sixth inning, but Toledo scored four runs in the sixth to pull away.
Salazar was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk, while Rogers had a double. Walker Wheeler was 1-for-3 with two runs scored, while Olson had a hit and a run scored.
Hernandez-Stansbury started, going four innings and allowing six hits and three earned runs. He struck out three and walked two. Salazar pitched the final two innings, allowing five hits and five earned runs.
