PORT ANGELES LEFTIES: Lefties drop series with Victoria

Lefties win Friday behind Sato 1-hitter

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties went back-and-forth with Victoria on Sunday, but in the end, the HarbourCats came out victorious by the score of 8-6.

The Lefties had leads of 2-0 and 4-3 early, but they couldn’t overcome a three-run sixth inning by Victoria.

Jeremy Giesegh (Cal State, San Bernardino) went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.

Jack Edmunds (Brown) concluded a huge weekend with two RBIs, while Tommy Markey (Fordham) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Garrett Patterson (Chaffey) also hit a double.

Starter Brad Johnson took the loss. He went four innings, allowed three earned runs and struck out five, while walking two.

Kayne Jinks pitched well over the final two innings, allowing two hits and no walks as the Lefties tried to rally back.

It was the final home game for the Lefties, who finish the season with a three-game road trip to Kamloops.

The Lefties (19-32 overall, 8-16 second half) make the trip to Kamloops (23-28 overall, 9-15 second half) to play at 6:35 p.m. today.

Saturday’s game

One day after getting a one-hitter, the Port Angeles Lefties’ pitchers struggled in a 15-7 loss to the Victoria HarbourCats on Saturday night.

The game was actually tight until the seventh inning when Victoria scored 11 runs. Port Angeles pitchers gave up 15 hits, 10 walks and hit four batters.

The Lefties had plenty of offense with 13 hits themselves, led by the second straight monster game by Jack Edmunds (Brown), who has been Port Angeles’ best hitter in the second half. Edmunds went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and four RBIs. After going 3-for-4 Friday night, he is now batting .305 on the season with seven home runs and 27 RBIs.

He walked two and struck out one.

Sato went the full nine innings, allowing just one hit, one walk and striking out 12.

That one hit was a solo home run by the HarbourCats’ Kamana Nahaku in the fourth inning. Other than that one mistake, Sato was nearly perfect, throwing 107 pitches with 68 strikes to keep Victoria at bay.

At the plate, Edmunds was 3-for-4 with a double, while Kirk was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a walk.

Patterson was 2-for-5 with an RBI and Garrett Cooper (Lewis-Clark) had a double and two runs scored. Giesegh had a hit, an RBI and a stolen base.
