LEFTIES: Home runs not enough in road loss

Peninsula Daily News

WENATCHEE — The Lefties are still seeking their first win of their latest road trip, as they lost 8-3 in their first game ever against the Wenatchee Apple Sox.

The Lefties’ Michael Ciancio and Ian Nowak both hit home runs Tuesday night, but it was not enough to overcome the Apple Sox’s 14 hits and eight runs. Jalen Garcia and Evan Johnson did much of the damage for the Apple Sox. Garcia had a two-run home run, while Johnson went 4 for 5 with two doubles and five RBIs.

The Lefties are over .500 at home, but they are 2-9 over their last 11 road games. Brandon Reynolds took the loss.

Alex Junior and Sean Roby each had two hits for the Lefties and Kevin Kendall had a double and an RBI. Both of Nowak and Ciancio’s home runs were solo shots. It was Ciancio’s third home run of the season.

The Lefties (9-15) played Wenatchee after press deadline last night. They play the Apple Sox again at 7:05 p.m. today.

Notes

Junior’s two hits put his average at .389, which would be good for third in the West Coast League. But, Junior has not accumulated enough at-bats yet to qualify.
