COLLEGE SOCCER: Peninsula teams advance to NWAC semifinals with hard-fought victories

Editors note

Edited to correct the details of the goal for the Peninsula women.

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College’s soccer teams had all they could handle in their Northwest Athletic Conference quarterfinal matches at Wally Sigmar Field on Saturday.

Both bands of Pirates squeaked by with 1-0 wins to advance to the NWAC Final Four at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila next Saturday.

The women had to go to a second golden goal period against North Idaho before freshman Ellie Small followed up a Myu Ban free kick that hit the underside of the crossbar to put the ball in net in the 106th minute.

The Peninsula women will next face the winner of Saturday’s later game between Highline and Clark.

The Pirate men got a goal by Trevan Estrellado off a free kick in the 55th minute and then held on to defeat Walla Walla.

Peninsula will face the winner between Highline and Chemeketa in the NWAC semifinals.
