VANCOUVER — Forks’ former all-league basketball player Marky Adams continues to play hoops as he enters his third year as a member of the professional Vancouver Volcanoes team in The Basketball League.
Adams, a 6-foot-10 post, who played for the Spartans, the Peninsula College Pirates and for Saint Martin’s, an NCAA Div. II school in Lacey, was the second-leading scorer for the Volcanoes last year at 13 points a game to go with a team-leading 8.2 rebounds.
Adams helped lead the Pirates to the NWAC championship game. He was on the all-North Region defensive team as a freshman.
The Basketball League was founded in 2017 by former Cleveland Cavaliers player Dave Magley. It is a third-tier pro league, a notch below the NBA G-League, for players to showcase their skills for teams from the NBA, the NBA G-League and overseas teams.
There are 38 TBL teams, including Pacific Northwest teams in Seattle, Wenatchee, Salem, Ore., and Eugene, Ore. The regular season runs from March to May with the playoffs in June.
The Vancouver Volcanoes were founded in 2005 as a charter team for the International Basketball League (IBL), where they played until the league’s demise in 2014.
At Saint Martin’s, Adams was a member of the honorable mention team for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in 2020. He averaged 10.7 points and 8.3 rebounds a game.
Adams has played three games this season so far for the Volcanoes. His best game came on March 8 against the Salem Capitals. He had three points, seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal.
