Port Angeles boys soccer player Matthew Miller had quite the debut for the Roughriders this weekend.
He just lost a cast over his wrist and bloodied both of his knees in the Riders’ opening game against East Jefferson.
Miller, just a sophomore, was named captain of a young team that features 15 freshmen and sophomores. He started off by scoring two goals, one on a header off a corner kick and the second on a penalty kick, and assisting on another goal on a quick pass to one of the team’s newest stars, Kanyon Anderson. Miller nearly had a hat trick, but a third goal on a free kick was nullified due to offsides.
The Riders started off the season with a hard-fought 3-2 over a Rivals’ team that fought back late. Miller and his Port Angeles teammates begin Olympic League play today against Kingston.
