ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Taryn Johnson, Sequim soccer; Daniel Cable, Port Angeles football

With all the remarkable performances last week, we could just pick one Athlete of the Week this week. We’re selecting Sequim soccer forward Taryn Johnson and Port Angeles running back Daniel Cable.

Johnson scored a hat trick against the Port Angeles Roughriders last Tuesday. You wouldn’t think she could top that performance, but she managed to do just that Thursday against Olympic, scoring another four goals. That’s seven goals in three days to help the Wolves win two straight.

What’s scary for Johnson’s Olympic League opponents is she is still just a sophomore.

Cable, a senior workhorse for the Roughriders for three years now, was a huge part of the Riders football team’s 31-6 win over Kingston Friday night. In perhaps his biggest game of his career for Port Angeles, Cable had a total of 258 yards from scrimmage, including 198 yards rushing and 60 yards receiving.

He had two rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown to help the Riders win their second game of the year. It was Cable’s second three-touchdown game of the year.
