ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Riley Martin, Sequim hurdler

Sequim’s Riley Martin this past weekend at the Li’l Norway Track and Field meet in Poulsbo won the 110-meter hurdles for the seventh time this season.

In fact, Martin has yet to run a 110-meter hurdle race this season without winning it.

Martin holds the second-fastest 110-meter hurdle time in the state at the 2A level at 15.14 seconds, a mark he set at the Terrace Invite at Edmonds-Woodway High School on April 14th. That is only 0.28 of a second behind the fastest 2A 110-meter time in the state.

Martin has also won the 300-meter hurdles four times this season and had five other first-place relay finishes for Sequim — one in the 4×100 and four in the 4×400. That’s a total of 16 first-place finishes for the season already for Martin, who racked up 12 individual and relay firsts last year.

Last year, Martin finished 13th in the state in the 110-meter hurdles and 12th in the 300-meter hurdles and will be looking to do even more damage at the state meet this year.
