PORT ANGELES — Local 155 clinched the Olympic Junior Babe Ruth Baseball Don Mudd regular season championship title last week at Volunteer Park by beating First Federal 1-0.
Local 155 finished the regular season with an overall record of 9-2 and a league record of 8-2.
In Thursday night’s clinching game, Bryce DeLeon got the start for Local 155 and threw a gem. Through six innings of work, DeLeon faced only 19 hitters, collected six strikeouts and gave up no walks and one hit.
Going into the top of the seventh, DeLeon was lifted, giving way to Brandt Perry, who picked up the save for Local by holding on to a one-run lead. Perry threw six pitches to four hitters to complete the win.
Great defense was on display for Local 155, highlighted by centerfielder Brian Belbin covering the ground with great speed, chasing down four fly balls, and catcher Brady Rudd throwing out Devyn Dearinger at second base to end a threat in the third inning.
The only run of the night was scored in the bottom of the second. Chris Jaynes reached first on an error and moved to second on a force out by Ian Smithson. Jaynes scored after three straight walks with Belbin getting the RBI.
For Local 155, Deleon, Alex Angevine, Perry, Jaynes and Smithson all picked up hits.
For First Federal, Dearinger and Owen Lietz each picked up hits.
Olympic Junior Babe Ruth’s end of the season Les Shore Memorial Tournament begins at 5:30 p.m. today with Forks facing First Federal. On Wednesday, Westport will face Athlete’s Choice.
The winner of tonight’s game will face Local 155 on Friday and the winner of Wednesday’s night game will face Swain’s at 2 p.m. Saturday. The winners of these two games will play in the tournament championship game at 5:30 p.m. June 8.

PORT ANGELES — Swain’s defeated Westport 7-3 last week. Swain’s jumped out to an early lead on doubles by Luke Flodstrom, Jordan Shumway and Tate Alton. Flodstrom shut Westport out for five innings.
Westport got on the board in the sixth with a couple of hit batsmen and hits by Rylan Politika and Hunter Stratford. Alton came in relief for Swain’s and closed the door. Swain’s Hunter Tennell and Trae Hanan were 2-for-4, and Jordan Shumway was 2-for-3 with two doubles.
