AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Free football camp set in Port Angeles for Aug. 1

PORT ANGELES — The second annual free football camp for grades 1-8 offered by Youth Athletes for Christ will be held at the Monroe Playfield from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 1.

The camp will teach the techniques and fundamentals of football.

Face Painting, haircuts, a bouncy house, food, giveaways, fellowship and special guests also are planned.

Volunteers and sponsors interested in supporting the free camp can call coach Sam Salanoa at 360-775-4338.

Sponsors will be featured on the camp T-shirt given to each camper.

Summer basketball

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Basketball will host two summer camps, a shooting clinic for players entering grades 4-8 and 9-12 from July 14-16 and a skills camp for boys and girls in grades 3-5 and 6-8 from July 21-24 at Port Angeles High School.

For the shooting clinic, grades 4-8 will attend from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the high-schoolers set for 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The cost is $75 for the shooting clinic.

For the basketball camp, incoming students in grades 3-5 will attend from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Students entering sixth through eighth grades will attend from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The cost is $100 for the basketball camp.

All players will receive a camp T-shirt, with games, contests and four days of instruction planned.

PC hoops

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College Summer Basketball Camps will be held from July 7-11 and Aug. 4-8 at the Peninsula College gym.

The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day. The cost is $100 and campers are expected to bring their own ball, athletic attire and water bottles.

The camp will focus on ballhandling, passing, shooting, defense and other basketball concepts.

Youth golf camp

PORT TOWNSEND — Free three-day youth golf clinics are planned this summer at Camas Prairie Golf Park, formerly the Port Townsend Golf Course.

The clinic is for ages 8-11 on July 14-16 and for ages 12-14 Aug. 4-6.

Golf clubs and balls will be provided. The clinics are open to the first 12 students.

PT hoops camp

PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Recreation Department will hold its summer basketball camp from Monday through Thursday.

The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day at Port Townsend High School.

The focus will be on improving fundamental skills through drills that improve technique, dribbling, shooting and passing.

The cost is $75 and the camp is limited to 50 players ages 5-14.
