AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Local hoops stars to play in Adidas 3SSB tournament

PORT ANGELES — Two standout basketball players from the Olympic Peninsula are set to take their talents to a national stage this summer.

Port Angeles’ Brock Hope and Sequim’s Jericho Julmist of Sequim, both All-Olympic League honorees, will compete in the prestigious Adidas 3SSB (Three Stripes Select Basketball) Championships in Rock Hill, S.C., from July 9 to 13.

The Adidas 3SSB circuit is one of the premier grassroots basketball leagues in the country, showcasing elite high school talent and drawing attention from top college programs and scouts.

Hope, a 6-foot-10 post player, will suit up for the Local Hoops Adidas 16U team based out of Bellevue. Known for his presence in the paint, soft touch on his shot, rebounding dominance, and shot-blocking ability, Hope has continued to elevate his game during the off-season. His size and versatility have already begun to draw attention from college programs across the Pacific Northwest.

Julmist, a dynamic shooting guard, plays with Beauchamp Elite 16U out of Issaquah, another high-level team on the Adidas circuit. Julmist is praised for his smooth shooting stroke, clutch play, aggressive defense, and high basketball IQ. His performance during the regular season earned him a spot on the First All-Olympic League team.

Clark 8th at Nike meet

EUGENE, Ore. — Port Angeles’ Teanna Clark finished eighth in the girls javelin at the Nike Nationals held in Eugene, Ore., in late June.

Clark’s best throw went 118 feet, 8 inches, which was a little off from her state championship throw of 136-3 at the end of May, but still good enough to finish among the top eight at the Nike event held June 24.

Clark competed in the “emerging elite” category against 48 other athletes from across the country. The event was won by Jaedyn Swindall of Ardmore, Okla., with a throw of 134-4.

Clark competed as an unaffiliated athlete. She also finished third in the javelin at the state championships in 2024 and has one more year of high school eligibility left.

Also competing at the Nike Nationals was Madelyn Bower of Sequim in the girls middle school shot put. She finished 23rd with a put of 25-4¾.
