AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Junior loses tourney finale in pitchers’ duel

PORT ANGELES — The Wilder Junior Baseball Club got fantastic pitching in their finale at the Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker on Sunday night, but lost in a pitchers’ duel 2-0 to the Kitsap Osprey in the consolation final.

Hunter Stratford and Rylan Dunn combined to throw a two-hitter. Stratford went 4⅔ innings, allowing two hits and an earned run. He struck out six. Dunn pitched 1⅓, striking out one and allowing no hits.

The Osprey scored their two runs in the fourth without an RBI. They scored on a passed ball and a steal of home.

Wilder Junior did have a chance in the top of the seventh as Carston Seibel got on base on an error and Lincoln Bear got on with a single. They moved up to second and third, but the Osprey got the final two outs of the inning on a foul tip and a popup to preserve the victory.

Bear had both hits for Wilder Jr., going 2-for-3 on the day.

Overall, Sunday was a successful day for Wilder Junior as the juniors won two games earlier in the day at the tournament, beating the WBS Colts Red 5-2 and the WBS Colts White 9-3.

Wilder Junior (15-12) has a very busy weekend coming up with four games Thursday and Friday in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and games Saturday and Sunday in Spokane at the Spokane Wood Bat Classic.
