NEWS BRIEFS: Naval exercises scheduled … and other items

OAK HARBOR — Naval Air Station Whidbey Island recently announced that it will conduct exercises to prepare for the 19th annual Citadel Shield — Solid Curtain exercise, which is set to take place Feb. 4 to Feb. 15.

According to a press release, area residents might see and hear a variety of activities related to these force protection exercises.

These activities might include smoke, explosions and Giant Voice announcements.

There might also be delays at some gates.

Because U.S. Navy policy prohibits the discussion of specifics related to force protection, no details of the exercises will be released.

Citadel Shield — Solid Curtain 19 will exercise security forces at naval bases across the continental U.S.

Berry College dean’s list has PA resident

ROME, Ga. — Berry College recently announced that Port Angeles resident Chi Hong Kwok has been named to its dean’s list for fall 2018.

The dean’s list honors students who maintain an academic average of 3.5 or better while carrying a class load of 12 hours or more.

Warm coats collected for local kids

PORT ANGELES — RE/MAX Evergreen recently announced that it collected more than 120 new or gently used coats to donate to the Port Angeles Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula.

According to a press release, this was the firm’s fifth annual “Coats for Kids” campaign.
