SEQUIM — How does your garden grow?
To really dig into that topic, take a tour through the Soroptimist Gala Garden Show, where Clallam County Master Gardeners will provide gardening education from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St., Sequim.
Gardening expert, author and Puget Sound radio and television personality Ed Hume will deliver the keynote address “Secrets of Successful Vegetable Gardening” in the Helen Haller Elementary School gymnasium, next door to the Boys & Girls Club, at 1 p.m. Saturday.
42-year career
Hume is celebrating his 42nd year as a gardening personality.
His weekly television show on KOMO 4 is the longest continuous-running gardening television show in North America.
He also has a weekly radio show and has written for various local, regional and national publications.
Other Saturday presentations:
•SEnSMaster Gardener Rita Dinger will talk about crop rotation and record keeping, “How to Plant Your Vegetable Garden for Success Year After Year,” at 10 a.m.
•SEnSClallam County Environmental Health Services Specialist Janine Reed will discuss “Clallam County’s Onsite Septic System Program” at 11 a.m.
•SEnSBob Cain will present Intensive Vegetable Gardening in Small Spaces at 3 p.m.
•SEnSJeanette Stehr-Green will share “Gardening and Your Health: How To Be a Happier and Healthier Gardener” at 4 p.m.
More speakers are scheduled on Sunday. They are:
•SEnSChef Shara Truett telling about “Preparing Vegetables and Grains for Success in the Seasonal Garden” at 11 a.m.
•SEnSMaster Gardener Bill Wrobel presenting “Sherlock Holmes for Plants” at noon.
•SEnSClallam County Conservation District Manager Joe Holtrop talking about “Sustainable Gardening with Native Plants” at 1 p.m.
•SEnSNorth Olympic Peninsula landscape professional Brian Burke focusing on “Keeping Your Pond Healthy Year Round” at 2 p.m.
Master Gardeners will provide information on simple, healthful and attractive gardening techniques and can answer questions at a booth in the vendor area.
The booth will have a demonstration of intensive vegetable growing.
A second Master Gardeners booth will display plans for a rose garden in the water reuse area near Carrie Blake Park in Sequim.
Attendees will have an opportunity to win tickets to this year’s Petals and Pathways Home Garden Tour on Saturday, June 26.
