YOUTH SPORTS ROUNDUP: Elks racks up pair of wins in Cal Ripken

PORT ANGELES — Elks racked up a couple of Cal Ripken Major League victories against Laurel Lanes and Swains last week.

Elks used a balanced attack to defeat Laurel Lanes 11-7. Reid Schmidt and Tanner Jacobsen led Elks at the plate with three hits apiece.

Hunter Wright and Kolten Corey each scored twice for Elks and Lincoln Bear added a single.

Cade Ellis and Nathan Basden notched triples for Laurel.

Elks then beat Swain’s 11-3 behind a strong performance on the mound from Corey.

Ian Smithson had two RBIs and Brandt Perry made a stellar catch in center field.

Schmidt scored three runs and Kaleb Mullen scored twice.

Parker Nickerson had two hits to lead Swain’s, including a double.

Lanes bowled over

PORT ANGELES — Conner Hickey went 3 for 3 with two runs at the plate and pitched four innings to lead Rotary to a 12-4 Cal Ripken Major League win over Laurel Lanes.

Mathew Perry doubled, tripled and scored three times for Rotary. Zac Alton was 2 for 2 with a double and three runs for Rotary, Phoenix Flores was 2 for 3 with a run, Landyn Jones doubled and scored, Edun Bailey doubled, Michael Young singled and Kodi Williams had an RBI single for Rotary.

Avalanche Black wins Swoosh Tourney in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Next Door Gastropub Olympic Avalanche Black went 4-0 and won the Swoosh Basketball Spring Slam Tournament’s eighth-grade girls division.

Swoosh Basketball is the largest youth tournament association on the West Coast.

The Avalanche Black beat R.I.S.E Bronze from Los Angeles 58-22, they beat Wolfpack Black from Santa Monica, Calif., 49-11, they beat R.I.S.E. Silver from Los Angeles 53-22 and beat MGB from Mission Viejo, Calif., 61-27.

Against R.I.S.E. Bronze, Emilia Long and Camille Stensgard had 14 points each. Against Wolfpack Black, Long and Jaida Wood led the Avalanche with 10 points each and against R.I.S.E. Silver, Stensgard had 12 points, while Hannah Reetz and Madison Cooke had 10 points each. In their final game against MGB, Long had 13 points, Cooke had 12 points, Reetz and Maggie Ruddell had 11 points each.

After the tournament, the girls went to Disneyland.
