WEST COAST LEAGUE: Lefties’ Holpuch makes league’s honorable mention team

The West Coast League South champion Portland Pickles led the way with 11 selections, including five first-team honors, highlighted by 2025 WCL Most Valuable Player Josh Schleichardt. The University of Oregon transfer commit set WCL records with 18 home runs and 64 RBI.

Making the honorable mention team was Port Angeles Lefties pitcher Garrett Holpuch (Centralia College and Tennessee Tech). Holpuch finished 2-3 for the Lefties with a solid 3.78 ERA and 35 strikeouts and just 13 walks in 47⅔ innings.

However, those stats don’t tell the whole story. Holpuch had one bad game June 13 against Wenatchee that inflated his ERA to 12.10. After that game, he pitched in six games, went 38 innings and allowed just seven earned runs for an ERA of 1.66. His best showings were six innings of shutout ball July 4 against Bellingham, 7⅔ innings against Springfield on July 25, allowing just one earned run and a seven-inning, one-run effort on June 20 against Nanaimo. He also pitched a complete-game victory over Kelowna on June 27, allowing three runs.

The 2025 WCL champion Bellingham Bells featured three players on the first team, including third baseman Nate Kirkpatrick (VCU). His home run in the championship game sparked the Bells’ victory over Portland. Bellingham had eight selections overall, trailing only Portland and the Corvallis Knights (10).

The first-year Marion Berries also boasted three first-team awards. Their list includes closer Alexander Chavez (Loyola Marymount), who tied for the league lead with six saves.

Brock Ketelsen (Stanford), who led the WCL with 35 stolen bases, was one of two Corvallis players selected for the first team.

Other league leaders named to the first team include 2025 WCL Pitcher of the Year Gio de Graauw (0.94 ERA) from the Kelowna Falcons (Newman University), Edmonton (University of British Columbia) reliever Myles Chamberlain (seven wins) and Bend (Oregon State) outfielder Jace Miller (.383 batting average).
