The University of Southern California has hired UW’s Steve Sarkisian as its permanent football coach, the Los Angeles Times reported this morning.
Sarkisian, a former USC assistant who has been head coach at Washington for the last five seasons, interviewed with USC Athletic Director Pat Haden on Sunday.
Sarkisian, 39, replaces interim coach Ed Orgeron, who guided USC to a 6-2 record after replacing the fired Lane Kiffin on Sept. 29.
Sarkisian is 34-29 at Washington, including 8-4 this season.
Sarkisian played quarterback at West Torrance High, El Camino College and BYU.
He was an assistant on Pete Carroll’s USC staff in 2001 to 2003 and 2005 to 2008. Carroll is now the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
