PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles’ Jolene Millsap and Port Townsend’s Rebecca Stewart were double winners and Sequim won the boys title at the Port Angeles Invitational.
The Invite featured 12 boys and girls track and field teams from the 3A, 2A, 1A and 1B classifications.
Millsap again established herself as the top girls sprinter on the North Olympic Peninsula by winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes at Saturday’s meet.
Millsap won the 100 with a time of 12.89 seconds and the 200 with a time of 26.73.
Jewel Johnson of Port Townsend placed second in the 100 and Sequim’s Waverly Shreffler was fourth.
In the 200, Crescent sophomore Ryan Lester took fourth and Sequim’s Mercedes Woods was fifth.
Stewart, a state participant in the 300-meter hurdles last year, won the 100 hurdles (17.52 seconds) and 300 hurdles (49.77 seconds) Saturday.
Sarah Hutchison of Sequim was second in the 100 hurdles and Lester placed fifth.
Lester finished third in the 300 hurdles and Sequim’s Mattie Clark took fifth.
Shreffler won the 400-meter run with a time of 1:04.83. Clallam Bay’s Inga Erickson was the Peninsula’s only other top-five finisher, placing fifth with a time of 1:10.69.
The Sequim girls team of Hutchison, Hannah Hudson, Gretchen Happe and Shreffler won the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:31.35.
Other area girls winners were Port Townsend’s Trish Reeves and Forks’ Sydney Christensen.
Reeves won the high jump with a mark of 5 feet and 2 inches.
Port Angeles’ Zoe Owens-Clawson tied for second with a jump of 4-10 and Clallam Bay’s Molly McCoy was fifth with a 4-06.
Christensen won the discus for the Spartans with a throw of 92 feet and 3 inches. Crescent’s Meghan Shamp took second with an 87-09.
Christensen, the top thrower on the Peninsula the last few years, placed fifth in the shot put with a 30-09.5. Neah Bay’s Faye Chartraw had the top area shot put mark Saturday with a 30-10.75.
In the javelin, Port Angeles’ Brittany Norberg took second and Crescent’s Devanie Christie placed third.
Owens-Clawson tied for second in three events Saturday. Along with her second-place tie in the high jump, she also earned co-runner-up status in the pole vault (6-06) and triple jump (31.05.75).
Jewel Johnson had the top area finish in the long jump, taking third with a 14-04.5. McCoy was fourth (13-08.75) and Erin Weekes placed fifth (13-07.75).
Area runners earned high finishes in the other track events.
In the 800-meter run, the Peninsula had the three, four and five finishers. Willow Suess of Port Angeles was third, Forks’ Kari Larson was fourth and Sequim’s Audrey Shingleton took fifth.
Port Angeles’ Elizabeth Stevenson was the runner-up in the 1,500-meter run and Shingleton placed third.
Sequim’s Emily Webb took second in the 3,000 and Port Angeles’ Annika Pederson finished fourth.
North Kitsap won the girls title with 138.33 points. Port Angeles was third with 91.83 points and Sequim took fourth with 80 points.
Boys Results
The Sequim boys compiled 117 points to beat out second-place Olympic, which finished with 110.5 points.
Oscar Herrera was the 300-meter hurdles champion with a time of 43.74 seconds for the Wolves and Mikey Cobb won the 1,500-meter run (four minutes and 28.05 seconds).
Josh Cibene’s 11-foot pole vault tied for first with North Kitsap’s Jacob McCown.
Sequim racked up points with high finishes in various other events.
Dylan Chatters placed second in the 400-meter run, Brendan Despain was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter run.
In the field events, sophomore Jackson Oliver had the second-best high jump, and Alex Barry placed second in the triple jump and the javelin.
The only other area boys winner was Port Angeles’ Peter Butler, who took first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:16.87. Peter Ohnstad of Sequim placed third with a time of 11:05.26.
Area athletes had many top-five finishes Saturday.
Port Angeles’ Tony Dalgardno was second in the 800 run, while Oliver was fourth and Port Townsend’s Brennan LaBrie was fifth.
In the 1,500 run, Port Angeles’ Simon Shindler placed second, three seconds behind Chatters, and Forks’ Alan Enstastegui took fifth.
Sequim’s Brendan Despain was the runner-up in the 3,000 run, Enstastegui was third and Hunter Demsey of Port Angeles was fourth.
Area runners placed fourth and fifth in the 100 and 200 dashes.
Chatters took fourth in the 100 and Port Townsend’s Domenick Zack was fifth.
Sequim’s Miguel Moroles ran the area’s fastest 100 time Saturday with an 11.97 seconds in the boys JV race.
In the 200, Sequim’s Kane Stoddard was fourth and Neah Bay’s Cameron Buzzell was fifth.
Herrera added a third-place showing in the 110-meter hurdles to his win in the 300. Crescent’s Quinn’Tin March was fifth in the 110 hurdles.
In the high jump, Port Townsend’s Zach Wilson placed fifth with a jump of 5 feet and 6 inches.
Sam Burton of Port Angeles was third in the pole vault with a vault of 10 feet.
Andrew Armas of Forks had the Peninsula’s top long jump with an 18-03 that earned him third place. Neah Bay’s Josiah Greene was fourth with an 18-02.5. Sequim’s Barry was fifth with an 18-00.5
Crescent’s Martin Waldrip took fifth in the triple jump.
In the shot put, Forks’ Miguel Morales was third and Port Angeles’ Matt Robbins took fifth.
Quenton Wolfer of Crescent was third in the javelin and Clallam Bay’s Evan Messinger was fourth.
Wolfer had the Peninsula’s top discus throw, a 103-08.5 that earned him third place. Sequim’s Austin Sampson was fourth and Paul Van Rosen of Port Angeles was fifth.
