STATE FOOTBALL UPDATE — Neah Bay routs; Port Townsend bows out

POULSBO — Rwehabura Munyagi Jr. and Cameron Buzzell led Neah Bay’s quick-strike offensive attack in a 68-0 win over Clallam Bay in the opening round of the 1B state football playoffs at North Kitsap High School on Friday night.

Munyagi threw for four touchdowns and ran for two more as the Red Devils didn’t have a drive require more than three plays until the fourth quarter.

Three of Munyagi’s TD passes were to Buzzell, who also opened the scoring with a 71-yard run after Clallam Bay chewed up nearly nine minutes of the first quarter on the game’s opening drive.

Munyagi capped the scoring with a nifty 34-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

His fourth TD pass to Kenrick Doherty Jr.

Neah Bay, which is ranked second in 1B, face Seattle Lutheran in the state quarterfinals next week.

The Saints advanced by beating Naselle 44-22 on Friday.

The Knights scored first, but Port Townsend answered with an 80-yard drive that concluded with a 2-yard touchdown pass by Berkley Hill to Carson Marx to tie the game at 7-7.

That ended up being the last touchdown of the Redhawks’ season, which ends with a 10-1 record and a No. 8 ranking in Class 1A.
