Port Angeles swimmers at Far Western Championships

MORGAN HILL, Calif. — Four Port Angeles Swim Club members competed at the Speedo Short Course Far Western Championships over the weekend.

Nadia Cole, 12; Kenzie Johnson, 13; Carter Juskevich, 17; and Jaine Macias, 15, represented the swim club at the meet that featured 152 teams from throughout the United States.

Macias broke two club records: the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200 breast.

Her performance in the 100 breast qualified her for the prestigious Futures Championships meet in Gresham, Ore., this summer.

Cole broke her own club record in the 200 breast.

Senior slow-pitch softball

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Senior Coed softball team has begun practice and will hold its organizational meeting Monday.

Those looking for exercise and fun times are invited to join the slow-pitch softball team. Women must be 45 years or older, and men must be over 50. All skill levels are welcome.

Practices are held Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m. at Elks Field, between 13th and 14th Streets, off South Pine.

The organizational meeting is at 10 a.m. Monday at the Senior Center.

Klahhane gymnasts advance

WOODINVILLE — Six Level 3 gymnasts from Port Angeles-based Klahhane Gymnastics participated in the North Sectional qualifying meet at Northshore Gymnastics on Sunday.

Three Klahhane gymnasts were among the top-60 placers who advanced to the State Compulsory competition.

Cindy Liang led the Klahhane qualifiers with an all-around score of 36.125, taking fourth in the Senior B age group and 26th overall.

Samantha Robbins and Dylan Baermann also qualified with all-around scores of 34.825 and 34.125, respectively.

Liang, Robbins and Baermann will compete at the Spring Compulsory State Championships at Pierce College in Lakewood on Friday, May 1.

Also participating in the sectional competition for Klahhane were Elena Gonzales, Kinzley Henrickson and Taryn Johnson.

Port Scandalous roller derby bout

SEQUIM — Port Scandalous Roller Derby will have its second bout of the season Saturday, April 25, at the Sequim Boys and Girls Club.

The bout begins at 5:30 p.m. at 400 W. Fir St.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Military and senior discounts available with identification. Children 6 and younger are free.

Jefferson County summer adult softball

PORT TOWNSEND — The registration deadline for the Jefferson County Parks and Recreation summer coed adult softball league is Monday, April 27.

The team registration fee is $385.

Games are scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays after workday hours. They will be played at H.J. Carroll Park, Irondale Park and Memorial Field.

Teams from Port Townsend, Port Ludlow, Brinnon, Quilcene, Port Hadlock, Irondale, Nordland, Pleasant Harbor, Chimacum and everywhere in between are welcome.

The league is alcohol- and tobacco-free.

A coaches meeting will be held Friday, May 1, at 6 p.m. at the recreation center at 620 Tyler Street in Port Townsend.
