Crescent alumni hoops tourney next week
JOYCE — Crescent High School will host its third annual alumni basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 21.
The event has expanded in reach this year an alumni basketball tournament, with games running from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Admission is free, but the school will operate the concessions stands and host a bake sale to raise funds for the high school’s boys and girls teams.
Organizers are expecting three alumni men’s teams, two women’s alumni teams and the squads of this year’s Loggers boys and girls hoops teams to compete.
The event is structured as a round-robin style tournament, with each men’s team facing off, and each women’s team playing its counterparts.
The two best teams in each bracket will play in men’s and women’s championship games.
Each contest is set for a 10-minute running clock.

Trail runner medals
HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Port Angeles trail runner Randy Johnson, 62, recently won the gold medal in the men’s age 60-64 division at the USA Track & Field National Championship 100-mile trail race.
Johnson finished in a time of 22 hours, 25.41 minutes, which was 5 hours and 19 minutes ahead of the runner-up.
The race was hosted by the Rocky Raccoon 100-mile Trail Race at Huntsville State Park.
NWAC all-academic
VANCOUVER — Three Peninsula College women’s basketball players were named to the Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for the winter quarter.
Athletes must be sophomores in eligibility with a minimum of 36 credits earned and a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
Earning the honor are Miranda Schmillen with a 3.73 GPA, Madison Pilster with a 3.56 GPA and Whitney Nemelka with a 3.41 GPA.
Former Port Angeles and current Olympic College players Macy Walker and Mariah Frazier also made the team with 3.34 and 3.29 GPAs, respectively.
