PREP SPORTS: Robinson bowls first ‘clean game’ in Port Angeles win

Robinson bowls over Olympic

PORT ANGELES — Abby Robinson’s games of 190 and 189 sparked Port Angeles in a 5-0 girls bowling win over Olympic on Thursday at Laurel Lanes.

“The Riders found themselves in a battle toward the end of game one but co-captains Robinson and Paige Pangaro took over to put the match out of reach,” coach Rebecca Gundersen said.

“Robinson rolled six strikes, including three strikes in the 1oth frame, and Pangaro finished the game with five straight strikes to score a 179.

In game two, Robinson rolled the first clean game in program history leaving no pins standing in any frame, and Pangaro added a 158.

Kenadie Ring added scores of 124 and 129 to aid in the victory. Also contributing to the win was Sophie Constant, Xoey Penn and Xoey Van Gordon.

The Riders close out the regular season against Sequim on Monday.

FORKS — All the Spartans saw plenty of court time in a big win.

“We tried to slow the game down, no fast breaks, use it as an opportunity to work on some different things we have been trying to do and execute,” coach Keith Weekes said.

“Everyone did something positive we could focus on and that’s all we can hope for each game.”

Brody Lausche led the way with 15 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Aidan Salazar had 10 points and five steals.

Boys Swimming Bainbridge 122, Port Angeles 48

KINGSTON — Port Angeles lost to the powerhouse Spartans but swam season-best times in 21 of 24 events.

Colby Ellefson claimed the lone event win for the Riders, outpacing Bainbridge by 24 seconds in the 500-yard freestyle.

Ellefson also claimed a second-place finish in the 200 IM, narrowly missing the high school record by a mere second.

Noteworthy were the significant time drops from several swimmers:

Jensen Wolfe impressively shaved off 20 seconds in the 200 free. Eli Warren reduced his time in the 200 individual medley by 3.5 seconds. Greg Fetterman showcased his speed with an 8-second drop in the 50 free. Myles Close achieved an impressive feat by cutting down his time in the 100 free by 8 seconds. Charlie Kasten swam an outstanding 500 free, dropping 24.5 seconds.

And Thomas Jones improved his 100 backstroke time by 7 seconds.
