PREP BASKETBALL: Sequim boys crush W.F. West to remain undefeated

SEQUIM — Sequim used a balanced attack with three players in double figures and 10 players scoring to run away from W.F. West 59-42 as the Wolves remained unbeaten on the season.

The game wasn’t even as close as the final score as the Wolves, who improved to 6-0 held a 54-31 lead at one point.

Mason Rapelje and Jericho Julmist led with the Wolves with 13 points each, while Solomon Sheppard got off to a fast start with 11 points, all in the first quarter. In that first quarter, Sheppard had a big blocked shot, a 3-pointer and two slam dunks to get the home crowd excited.

Charlie Grider added eight points.

The Wolves next play an exhibition game at home at 6:30 p.m. today against Showtime Basketball, an international traveling team from Australia.

NORTH BEACH — The Crescent boys basketball team split a pair of games this weekend at the North Beach tournament, dropping its first game 86-42 against Willapa Valley, but then coming back later Saturday to beat Lake Quinault 70-20.

All in all, a one day tournament, we got third. It was a pretty good experience especially when you talk about team bonding and finding out some things about some guys in different spots,” said coach Chris Ferrier.

Mikah Love led the Loggers with 19 points against Lake Quinault, while Josh Noel had 13.

In the early game, Willapa Valley scored 32 points in the first quarter.

“First game we went up against very quick and hot shooting Vikings team,” Ferrier said. “We were down 13-0 before we knew it and the first quarter went from there. The second quarter we hung in there, settled down, and got the score back to respectable. Came out of halftime, Valley really started connecting again from short and long range and we struggled to score the rest of the game.”

Henry Bourm had 11 and Jaxon Sprague nine.

Crescent (6-4) next plays at Oakville on Saturday.
