PORT ANGELES LEFTIES: HarbourCats complete sweep over the Lefties

PORT ANGELES — The Victoria HarbourCats limited the Port Angeles Lefties to just four hits in a 9-4 victory to complete a three-game sweep at Civic Field on Wednesday night.

The Lefties will look to get back on the winning track, traveling to Kamloops, British Columbia, to begin a three-game series Friday.

The Lefties were hurt by a pair of HarbourCats home runs.

Port Angeles’ Drew Standen (New Jersey Institute of Technology) took the loss, but battled Victoria’s Loretto Siniscalchi pitch-for-pitch for four innings as the Lefties went into the fifth up 1-0.

The HarbourCats finally broke through for five runs in the fifth inning thanks to a two-run double by Brandon Green and a two-run home run by Nick Dumesnil to take a 5-1 lead. Standen ended up going 4⅓ innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits. He walked none and struck out six.

The Lefties rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-4. The big blow was delivered by Kamden Koester (Neosho County CC) with a two-run bases-loaded single. But, Victoria came right back with three-run home run by Tyler Davis in the top of the seventh to pull away at 8-4. The Lefties were able to manage just one hit the rest of the game.

Sebastian Flores (Riverside Community College) had a hit, two RBIs and two walks, driving in a run with a bases-loaded walk.

Roberto Nunez (Embry-Riddle) had a hit and a stolen base, while BY Choi (Dallas Baptist) had a single.

On the mound, Makana Quia (Hawaii Pacific) pitched a scoreless ninth, allowing no hits and two walks while striking out one.

After the Lefties’ (2-10) three-game series in Kamloops (3-8), they will return to Civic Field on Tuesday for a six-game homestand against Canadian teams. They have three games against the Nanaimo NightOwls and three against the Kelowna Falcons.
