GOLF: Champions crowned in Clallam County Amateur

PORT ANGELES — Renton’s Justin Johnson dominated the Clallam County Amateur Golf Tournament this weekend, while Jack Revier won the net trophy by one stroke.

The tournament was held at Cedars at Dungeness on Sunday, Peninsula Golf Club on Saturday and Sunland Golf Club on Friday. Johnson shot an outstanding 3-under-par 213, winning the overall gross by 12 strokes over Sequim’s Adam Columbia. After a slow start Friday at Sunland, where Johnson shot a 76, he stormed back with a 70 at Peninsula Golf Club, then capped off his tournament with a 5-under-par 67 with six birdies at Cedars at Dungeness. Johnson had 11 birdies and just one double bogey over three days and won an overall purse of $755.

Columbia had a 9-over 225 (80, 71, 74), while coming in third overall was Alex LeMmon with a 10-over 226 (78-75-73).

The overall net winner was Jack Revier with a 9-under-par 207, edging Adam Shantz by one stroke. Revier shot a 207 net (72, 65, 70) with his best day at Peninsula Golf Club. Shantz got off to a great start at Sunland (67-72-69) and finished with a 208 net.

Third in the overall net were Nick Van (73-76-69) and Brian Scheibner (77-72-69), both with a 218.

Johnson won as the top Flight One golfer over Columbia. Winning Flight Two was Scheibner with a 241 gross (85-80-76), while Shantz was the Flight Three winner with a 255 gross (83-88-84). They each won a $350 purse for being flight winners.

The Flight One net winner was Van, while the Flight Two net winner was Revier.

The Flight Three’s best net score was by Shantz, but he took the purse for also having the best gross score in Flight Three. So, the top Flight 3 purse went to Jason Edwards (82-70-69) and Bob Gunn (68-81-72), who each shot a 5-over-par 221 and earned $300 each.

The top purse winner was Johnson with $755 total, while Shantz earned $600, Van $540 and Scheibner and Revier $500 each.
