AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Senior pounds out 39 hits in sweep; Wilder Jr. splits

BELLEVUE — Wilder remained in the hunt for the NW Area 1 AAA League title with a doubleheader sweep against Lakeside Babe Ruth 14-3 and 11-5.

Wilder bashed 39 hits in the Friday’s twinbill. Gavin Guerrero went 8 for 10 on the day.

“There was a lot of barrel on the ball,” said coach Karl Myers.

Believe it or not, Wilder actually got off to a slow start in the opening game, trailing 3-0 after four innings. They exploded after the fourth, scoring five runs in the fifth and nine runs in the sixth to blow the game wide open.

Wilder tallied 20 hits in the first game and every single batter on the team had at least one hit. Timmy Adams went 4 for 4 with two runs and an RBI, while Guerrero was 4 for 5 with two runs and an RBI.

Brody Merritt hit 3 for 4 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs. Joel Wood went 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs and Lucas Jarnigan went 2 for 4 with a double, two runs score and two RBIs.

Bo Bradow started the game on the mound, going five innings, giving up three hits and no earned runs, while striking out four and walking two. Jadon Seibel pitched the sixth inning, giving up no hits, no runs and no walks while striking out one.

In the second game, Guerrero again went 4 for 5 with two runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases.

Bradow went 3 for 3 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Jarnigan went 2 for 4 with three RBIs, while Wyatt Hall went 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. Whitman had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.

Adams got the win on the mound, going five innings and giving up no earned runs on six hits. He struck out four.

Wilder (9-1, 5-1) plays Lakeside Recovery (10-2) in Issaquah today with these games possibly deciding the NW Area 1 AAA League championship. The two teams split a pair at Civic Field earlier this season.

Wilder then has up to six home games at Volunteer and Civic Field this week against a traveling team from Australia (July 2-3) and the Firecracker Tournament (July 4-7).
