WEEKEND: Port Townsend to add bit of Victorian flair to holiday Saturday — Corrected

CORRECTION>/b>This has been corrected to reflect that the Port Townsend Paper Christmas Tree Decorating Contest Showcase will be on Saturday, Dec. 20.

PORT TOWNSEND — Holiday festivities will take on an old-timey, Victorian flavor in Port Townsend this Saturday.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can warm up in a Victorian salon, tour an historic tall ship, ride the Kiwanis Choo-Choo and visit a Christmas tree-decorating showcase.

The Victorian Yuletide Salon will feature Father Christmas at the Jefferson Museum of Art and History.

Admission will be free to the Olde Time Christmas at the museum at 540 Water St.

The museum foyer has been turned into a welcoming Victorian parlor where costumed performers will sing, play and recite holiday favorites, and photos can be taken with Father Christmas.

For more information, phone Kimberly Torres at 360-301-5884, email ksnowball@outlook.com or visit www.vicfest.org/yule.

At the same time, the 101-year-old Adventuress, a 133-foot gaff-rigged schooner launched in 1913, will be open for free tours at the Point Hudson Marina, 103 Hudson St.

The schooner will be decked out for the holidays during the “open ship.”

Carolers will serenade visitors and hot cider and cookies will be served.

Sound Experience, the Port Townsend nonprofit that operates the Adventuress, will accept donations.

For more information, phone Zoe Ballering at 360-379-0438, email zoe@soundexp.org or visit www.soundexp.org.

Choo-Choo rides

And during the three hours, the Kiwanis Club will offer Choo-Choo Rides for children.

Participants will meet across from the Jefferson Museum of Art and History.

A $5 donation is suggested.

Proceeds will benefit school arts education and music programs.

Victorian parlor tours

Continuing this Saturday will be tours of restored Victorian homes that have been converted to bed-and-breakfast inns.

Unlike Saturday’s other activities, the tours are from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Tours of inns will be each Saturday through Dec. 20.

The Victorian Holiday Open Parlor Tour this Saturday is of Quimper Inn, 1306 Franklin St.; Blue Gull Inn, 1310 Clay St.; McCurdy House, 405 Taylor St.; and Bishop Victorian Hotel, 714 Washington St.

Tickets are $15. Reservations are recommended. Tickets can be purchased at www.vicfest.org/yule or at the Quimper Inn.

The tours are sponsored by Olympic Peninsula Steam and the Victorian Society in America-Northwest chapter.

Tree decorating contest next weekend

Next Saturday, Dec. 20, the Port Townsend Paper Corp. will host the Port Townsend Paper Christmas Tree Decorating Contest Showcase at the Cotton Building at 607 Water St.

The contest features 36-inch cardboard fold-out trees, decorated by contest entrants in whatever manner they choose.

Judging was done using digital photos of the entries that were sent to a panel of judges.

Judges selected 12 winners in various categories who will share in $675 in cash prizes.
