PORT ANGELES — Highly exaggerated stories, tall tales and fully fleshed-out lies will be told at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse this Saturday night as the annual Liars’ Contest rears its fibbing head.
The nonprofit Story People of Clallam County host — and present prizes at — the 7 p.m. event at the playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
The liars get funnier every time, said Pat Ferris, the competition’s organizer for three years now.
Storyteller Cherie Trebon serves as mistress of ceremonies, and the contestants are Ingrid Nixon, John Joseph, Bob Nuffer, Anne Rutherford, Norm Breche, Rebecca Hom, Azella, Margaret Lott, Stephanie Gooch, Milton Patrie and Joy Beaver.
Admission is $10, or $8 for Story People members, while information can be found at ClallamStoryPeople.org.
Port Angeles storyteller Dennis Duncan, Bob Grattan of the Bushwhacker restaurant and Edna Petersen, owner of Necessities & Temptations boutique, will judge the liars on their delivery, creativity and audience response, and then award trophies — plus the $100 for first prize, $50 for second and $25 for third prize.
Every year at the Liars’ Contest, Ferris said, “I laugh so hard my sides ache.”
