Wanna iguana? Second Chance Ranch offers songbirds to llamas

PORT TOWNSEND – A no-kill animal shelter based near Quilcene plans an adoption day on Saturday, in the hope of finding homes for an assortment of animals, from cats to songbirds to llamas.

Animals can be seen from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 209 Monroe St., Port Townsend.

“The goal is to find loving forever homes for many of the animals,” said Sara Penhallegon, director of Second Chance Ranch No-Kill Animal Shelter and Sanctuary.

“We have reached full capacity for cats at 35 and have a waiting list to get in.”

In addition to cats, the shelter will be bringing five zebra finches, two cockatiels, two pairs of lovebirds, two roosters, hens, rabbits and ducks – if she can catch them – to display, Penhallegon said.

People can also view photos of horses, llamas and other large animals that are available for adoption.

“Other shelter sanctuaries are bringing dogs to the event,” she said.

Second Chance Ranch has a permanent resident iguana, Alexandria, but Petie and Sebastian are both up for adoption, Penhallegon said.

By contacting her ahead of time, potential adopters can become pre-approved and take a new pet home the same day as the event, Penhallegon said.

Adoption fees range from $10 for finches to $70 for cats.

“Even if you are not interested in adoption, you could still come down and show your support and learn more about Second Chance Ranch,” Penhallegon said.

Volunteers and sponsors of fundraising events are needed, she said.
