Crimes across the board in Jefferson County at the end of 2006 were on the decline compared with the previous year, except for one glaring increase.
Robberies spiked 333.3 percent in 2006 compared to the year earlier – from three in 2005 to 13 in ’06, according to a preliminary report generated by Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs.
That report includes crimes dealt with by both the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Port Townsend Police Department.
Burglaries also slightly increased, from 322 in 2005 to 329 in 2006, a 2.2 percent difference.
Total number of crimes reported decreased countywide, from 1,193 in 2005 to 1,119 in 2006, falling 6.2 percent.
