Police identify two accused of drag race on Ediz Hook

PORT ANGELES — Charges of reckless driving, hit-and-run and accomplice to hit-and-run have been recommended for the two people allegedly involved in Friday evening’s drag race on Ediz Hook that ended with a car rollover at the McKinley Paper Company mill.

Dillon Martin-Berger, 24, of Port Angeles and Haley T. Holden, 21, of Sequim remained free as of Tuesday afternoon as the prosecutor’s office reviews the evidence and considers potential charges.

Both people face a possible reckless driving charge while Holden faces possible hit-and-run and Martin-Berger faces a possible accomplice to hit-and-run for allegedly helping Holden flee the scene after she crashed her Nissan Maxima.

Despite Holden’s Maxima rolling and the vehicle passing within an estimated 20 feet of an off-duty mill employee and within 10 feet of the scale shack, no one was injured, according to Port Angeles police.

The car was completely destroyed.

Holden hit a tree on the mill’s property.

According to witnesses, the car and truck were racing side-by-side down Ediz Hook before entering the work site of the paper mill traveling an estimated 50 mph. The speed limit through the mill is 15 mph.

Witnesses told police that, after the car rolled, they saw a woman leave the car and climb into the truck.

Holden was contacted later at her father’s house by a Sequim police officer and interviewed.
