Puget Sound Anglers meet Tuesday

PORT TOWNSEND — The public is invited to the East Jefferson Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The monthly meeting is held in the Port Commissioners Office, 333 Benedict St.

The meeting starts with social time at 6:30 p.m. for sharing fish stories, coffee and cookies followed by the business meeting beginning at 7 p.m.

Topics on the agenda are winter crabbing for Marine Area 9, a Marine Resource Committee representative discussing what orcas eat, a hatchery update and other topics of interest.

Republican women

PORT TOWNSEND — The Republican Women of Jefferson County will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

This meeting will be held at the Highway 20 Roadhouse, 2152 W. Sims Way.

Dee Drewry, president of the Washington Federation of Republican Women, will be the guest speaker.

Dad and Me Play

PORT ANGELES — Dad and Me Play is held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Nov. 24.

The free program for children six years and under will be held at the First Step Family Support Center, 323 E. Sixth St.

Activities with blocks will focus on science, technology, engineering, art and math.

No registration is needed.

Light snacks will be served for children; coffee, coffee talk and college credit will be available for adults.

This program is presented with help from the Satterberg Foundation and Parenting Matter Foundations

Farming course

PORT HADLOCK — Washington State University (WSU) Extension is offering “Cultivating Success: Agricultural Entrepreneurship and Farm Business Planning” starting Wednesday.

The 11-week course is designed for people exploring farming as a career, for beginning farmers with new businesses, farmers with existing businesses and for value-added food producers.

Craft3 and the North Olympic Development Center are co-sponsoring the course.

Classes are from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays starting this week and finishing Dec. 19.

Classes will be conducted in the WSU Extension Classroom, Kively Center, 97 Oak Bay Road.

The course features a combination of guest speakers, in-class discussion, assignments and a field trip focusing on the business side of running a farm.

Each week, participants will be expected to progressively develop a plan so that at the end of the course, they will have the core elements of a business plan to guide their farm forward.

Weekly topics include: licensing and permitting, market analysis and branding, farm operations, accounting and bookkeeping, and finances and taxes.

The cost of the series is $260 per farm.

Weekly flight operations scheduled

COUPEVILLE — Outlying Landing Field Coupeville will be closed to jet aircraft traffic until the end of October due to runway maintenance.

There will be field carrier landing practice operations for aircraft stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Complex at Ault Field for afternoon then evening to night Tuesday.

Practice is also slated for morning then evening to night Wednesday.

Practice is also scheduled for evening Thursday.

Operations will continue morning to afternoon Friday.

Skills to grow

Concerned Citizens will present a series of classes for personal improvement from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Nov. 29.

Classes will focus on soft skills for people who are new to the workplace or those preparing to enter it, according to a press release.

Admission to classes is free and free food will be provided.

The classes are offered in Forks at the Family First Center, 915 S. Forks Ave., and in Port Angeles at the Vern Burton Gym, 308 E. Fourth St.

Dates and times are the same at both locations.

Remaining classes in the series include: teamwork, Thursday; networking, Oct. 17, problem solving, Nov. 1; critical thinking, Nov. 8; professionalism, Nov. 15; more soft skills, Nov. 25.
