PORT ANGELES — First Step Family Support Center served 7,700 free lunches to children this summer, the agency reported last week.
Lunches were distributed at eight locations between June 25 and Aug. 31 to Port Angeles children younger than 18, said Melissa Randazzo, spokeswoman for the agency.
First Step worked with the Port Angeles School District, Sodexho and several area human services agencies to provide the lunches for the 2012 Summer Food Program.
“A donation by United Methodist Women in Port Angeles and dedicated staff, interns and volunteers helped the program to run efficiently,” Randazzo said.
First Step, a partner agency with United Way of Clallam County, received a certificate of appreciation and a “gold star” for the program from the Children’s Alliance, an advocacy organization dedicated to improving the health, safety and economic well-being of children in Washington state.
