CLALLAM BAY — A lockdown at Clallam Bay Corrections Center continued Wednesday and will likely continue into today.
Following a bloody inmate-on-inmate assault Tuesday, staff from several other state prisons helped Clallam Bay staff with a cell-by-cell search for contraband, prison Superintendent Sandra Carter said Wednesday.
Prison staff was also searching for the source of the foot-long steel rod used in the attack, Carter said.
“So we don’t have this problem again,” Carter said.
So far the search yielded a sharpened needle and some tobacco, she said. Inmates are prohibited from having tobacco and getting or giving tattoos.
The search, which will include common areas in the prison, will likely conclude tonight, Carter said.
Cause unknown
The cause of the fight is still unknown, Carter said, but she does not believe it was gang-related.
“At this point it’s looking like an isolated incident,” Carter said.
