First Friday Art Walk to feature whodunit mystery

The First Friday Art Walk, an artist workshop and free video game tournaments highlight this weekend’s events on the North Olympic Peninsula.

• First Friday Art Walk will offer a self-guided tour of art venues in downtown Sequim from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

Special events include:

• The Ninth Whodunit Downtown? Mystery game will present “The Case of the Platinum Record Disharmony” from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

During the game, visitors can engage with suspects and collect clues at various venues to solve a crime for a chance to win a prize.

The story, set in January 1995, has The Boyz N the Boat boy band returning to its hometown of from Sequim, after making it big with the hit “Race To Win Your Heart.”

The band is set to perform at a nonprofit fundraiser and is rumored to have a shocking announcement revealing a crime to present at the event.

Participants, ages 21 and older, can pick up a game card at the A. Milligan Art Studio & Gallery, the Blue Whole Gallery, the Sequim Habitat Boutique Store, La Petite Maison Blanc, Pacific Mist Books, Over the Fence, Sequim Spice and Tea and Wind Rose Cellars.

Completed game cards can be entered “Whodunit Headquarters” in Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County’s Sequim Habitat Boutique Store, 154 W. Washington St.

• The Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., will display “January Stars.”

The show, which features the best works of the gallery’s members, is curated by Jennifer Rose, a bead and jewelry artist.

“January Stars gives each artist an opportunity to present what they like most about their work,” Rose said. “As the curator, my job is to make sure I find a way to showcase each piece, and that’s not an easy thing to do!”

Visitors can see the display and talk to the artists during Art Walk.

• The A. Milligan Art Gallery, 520 N. Sequim Ave., will host the Olympic Peninsula Art Association’s Members Show and Fundraiser in the main gallery.

The annual show benefits the association’s Art Scholarship Program, which is open to high school seniors in Clallam County.

Visitors during Art Walk can meet some of the 15 exhibiting artists, including Christopher Allen, Lauren Blair Churchill, Michelle Godbehere, Marilyn Heistand, Hattie Kaufman, Suzan Noyes-Mangold, Anne Milligan, Nancy Peet, Karen Lavender-Peterson, Cathy Stanfield, Melody Todnem, Patricia Warner, Andrea Woods, Debbie Young and Len Zeoli.

• The North Olympic Shuttle and Spindle Guild will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1033 N. Barr Road, Port Angeles.

The guild program will feature a discussion by members regarding recent guild workshops.

• Ellie Peterson will present the Monster Evolution Artist Workshop at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles.

The free workshop will begin with warm-up drawing exercises, then participants will roll dice to determine how their monsters evolve.

Each roll of the dice will add a new trait. Once the monsters have all their features, wild habitats will be added around them.

The workshop is open to all ages and experience levels. Children 8 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

All supplies will be provided.

Peterson, who has more than 20 years of classroom experience as a teacher, is the author and illustrator of “How to Hug a Pufferfish,” which was a 2023 Washington State Book Award winner.

• The North Olympic Library System will host two free video game tournaments for teens and tweens from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Jim and Nikki Klahn Community Meeting Room at the Forks Branch Library, 171 S. Forks Ave.

Library staff will facilitate a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament on Nintendo Switch.

Simultaneously, Roberto Rodriguez will lead a Super Mario Kart tournament on Nintendo 64.

Pizza and light refreshments will be provided.

The champion will win a poster and a trophy.

• Lindsey Dono will call for a contra dance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Black Diamond Community Hall, 1942 Black Diamond Road, Port Angeles.

Music will be provided by the Contraband, featuring Joey Gish, Chandra Johnson, David Rivers and Will Jevne.

Dono will teach a free lesson at 7 p.m. to those who have paid admission.

Requested donation is $10 per person, $5 for youths younger than 18.
