PORT LUDLOW — The Port Ludlow Art League will host a reception for Marc McManus from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The reception will begin in the lobby at Sound Community Bank, 9500 Oak Bay Road, then move to the league’s adjacent gallery at 5 p.m.
McManus is exhibiting mixed media, painting and a narrative process in the bank throughout January.
McManus earned a bachelor’s of fine arts degree from the State University of New York College at Oswego.
His studies included an emphasis on painting and art history.
He has gained inspiration from Mark Rothko, an abstract painter; Philip Guston, a painter, printmaker and muralist; and from Joseph John Campbell, a professor who worked in comparative mythology and comparative religion.
Through his art, McManus attempts to explore the relationship between our lives and the infinite universe.
“Including narrative symbolism into each piece speaks to the importance of process and alignment in life,” McManus said. “For me, incorporating rhythm, time and shape highlights the journey of random moments that define who we are and the epic tales that transform our lives.”
