Port Angeles police identify body found in Peabody Creek

Official: No indication of foul play or suicide

PORT ANGELES — A man whose body was found in Peabody Creek on Christmas Eve has been identified as Monty John Robuck, police said.

The 62-year-old’s body was found in the the creek just north of Park Avenue at about 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, Port Angeles Police Det. Jeffery Ordona said.

“With the help of the Sheriff’s Department and the (National) Parks Service, our patrol teams were able to do a recovery and removal of the person,” Port Angeles Chief of Police Brian Smith said Wednesday.

Smith said there was no indication of foul play or suicide. The Clallam County Coroner will conduct an autopsy.

“I haven’t been given any facts that tell me about cause and manner of death, and I also haven’t been given any facts that talk about criminology,” Smith said in a telephone interview.

Ordona said the body was reported by a family who was walking through the area.

It was unclear how long the body had been in the creek.

“It’s really cold outside and he’s in the water, so that kind of changes things,” Ordona said.

Police had no suspects or persons of interest Wednesday.

Robuck, who was familiar to local law enforcement, had not been reported as missing, Ordona said.

Port Angeles police issued a statement about the death investigation at 6:12 p.m. Tuesday. The name was withheld until Wednesday for notification of next of kin.
