BEAVER — A woman remained hospitalized in stable condition Sunday, two days after a fast-moving house fire killed her husband and destroyed their home.
Alice Neal, 79, jumped out of the bedroom window and was treated for lacerations and superficial burns at Forks Community Hospital.
She was reported in stable condition Sunday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Her husband, Terry Neal, 71, died in an early Saturday mobile-home fire from which his wife escaped.
Neal fled through a window, and while her husband tried but failed to get out of the 1,500-square-foot home at 240 Lake Creek Road after it erupted in flames, reported to dispatchers at 11:41 p.m. Friday.
The living room in the metal-sided home was in flames when Alice Neal woke up and awakened her husband, according Chief Bill Paul of Clallam County Fire District No. 1.
Initial reports indicated that the fire, which appeared to be accidental, might have started in the kitchen.
Investigation into the fire is ongoing.
