VOLUNTEERS WILL PERFORM community service jobs in Port Angeles and Sequim on the United Way of Clallam County Day of Caring on Saturday.
Projects will range from yard work and landscaping to painting homes, repairs and cleanup, with volunteers at work from 9 a.m. to about 1 p.m.
Projects in Forks and Clallam Bay will be scheduled for a later date, while United Good Neighbors in East Jefferson County will conduct Day of Caring community projects Sept. 12.
Saturday’s projects will kick off the United Way’s annual fund drive, which this year has a goal of $1 million.
In 2014, United Way raised $881,418, which has been distributed to 26 partner nonprofits and to United Way initiatives such as Great Beginnings and other services.

Port Angeles
Among projects planned in Port Angeles is annual maintenance of the Dream Playground at Erickson Park.
The park at Third and Race streets will be closed today through Sunday for maintenance. Day of Caring volunteers are expected Saturday.
Volunteers will pull ground cover back from the fence for inspection and repair, seal wooden elements, touch up paint and clean up.
They should bring gloves, rakes and paintbrushes. Those comfortable with light carpentry can bring power drill drivers. Sawhorses, a power miter saw and router also may be needed.
Port Angeles High School students who volunteer will get documentation of community service hours.

■ First Step Family Support Center — Cleaning inside and out.
■ Serenity House’s Maloney Heights — Assembling raised bed planters.
■ Peninsula Behavioral Health Horizon House — Landscaping, painting and installing cabinets.
■ Parent Line — Hanging an exterior door (only a few volunteers from Kiwanis Club are needed).
■ Francis Street Park — Cleanup.
■ Salvation Army — Painting main room.
■ Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula, Port Angeles unit — Painting, cleaning, installing coving (moulding) at the new teen center.
■ Olympic Community Action Programs — Painting porch railings at Hamilton Head Start.
■ Mosaic — Mosaic participants and families will finish a project cleaning at a cemetery.
Sequim
In Sequim, opening ceremonies will kick off the day at 9 a.m. at Blake Avenue near Carrie Blake Park and the Water Reuse Demonstration Site.
The primary city project will be the planted parking strip along Blake Avenue running along Carrie Blake Park and the Water Reuse Demonstration Site.
Other projects in Sequim:
■ Sequim unit of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula — Painting library, sorting, coding and ordering books. Twenty volunteers needed.
■ Sequim Food Bank — Painting exterior trim, painting around new windows, doorways scraped, primed and painted.
■ Parenting Matters Foundation — Volunteering with elder outreach project making flowers to be delivered to elders.
■ Gerhardt Park — Various projects, which may be held on a different date.
■ Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church — Church members are volunteering at various projects throughout the community, including card making, Habitat for Humanity, Boys & Girls Clubs, food bank and others.

The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act of 2009 designated Sept. 11 as a day to serve the community with cleanup or construction projects in honor of those who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks of 2001 and those who rose in service in response to the tragedy.
Community service projects are to be done on or near Sept. 11.
