WEEKEND: Tour Saturday, Sunday to give visitors close look at Jefferson’s farms

The 12th annual Jefferson County Farm and Fiber Tour is Saturday and Sunday.

Self-guided tours of working farms in Jefferson County will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, with fiber farm tours Saturday and Sunday and other farms only Sunday.

Farm Tour Central, offering maps, brochures and all the information visitors need, will be the Chimacum Corner Farmstand at 9122 Rhody Drive.

A donation of $10 per carload is suggested but not required.

The tours are sponsored by the Washington State University Jefferson County Extension Service.

During the fiber tour, visitors will see spinning, weaving, roving and plant-dye demonstrations.

Fiber artists’ goods also will be for sale.

The five fiber farms on the tour Saturday and Sunday are:

Sunday farm tour

Fourteen farms, as well as the Sunfield Farm and Waldorf School and WSU Twin Vista Ranch, will open their gates and offer tours Sunday.

Visitors can see farm composting, cheese-making and other demonstrations.

They can view livestock, walk vegetable fields, learn about seed varieties, tour greenhouses, enjoy hay rides and listen to live music.

Many farms will host food vendors serving local food.
