WEEKEND: Shift gears to cruise into Port Townsend for car show Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — At least 200 cars, trucks and motorcycles are expected to shine in Memorial Field at 550 Washington St. during the 11th annual Rakers Car Show on Saturday.

Organizer Richard Stapf expects perhaps as many 300 vehicles if the sun is shining, but fellow organizer Gayle Thorne will be happy with a couple hundred.

“We had 205 last year,” she said. “It was the best we had in years.”

However many show up, the show will go on rain or shine, displaying cars, trucks and motorcycles of any age, as well as offering nine vendors.

Participants will check in between 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., paying $20 at the gate.

The first 175 vehicles will be given dash plaques as mementoes, Thorne said.

Spectator admission will be $5 once the show begins at 9:30 a.m. Children 12 and younger accompanied by an adult will be admitted free, as will active-duty military with identification and their families.

The Port Townsend Lighthouse Lions will provide breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m.

Breakfast served

They will offer eggs, sausage and home fried potatoes, along with the usual coffee and doughnuts.

Coffee, soda and water will be provided all day.

The Lions will provide lunch service — sirloin burgers, hot dogs with all the trimmings, nachos and chili dogs — from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., when the awards ceremony will begin.

Thirty-nine trophies will be presented during the awards ceremony.

Four of them will be custom-made by members of the Rakers Car Club.

Those will be for best of show, people’s choice, Rakers choice and the car club with the most attendees.

Raffles with a variety of prizes are planned all day.

No dogs other than service dogs will be allowed. Also not permitted are alcohol, smoking, bicycles and pop-up shelters.

For registration information, phone Sandy Trumble at 360-437-5192 or Thorne at 360-385-1344, or email gaylethorne66@gmail.com.

For general car show information, phone Stapf at 360-301-1199 or Rick Crawford at 360-531-0423, or email leaknlaul@cablespeed.com.
