PORT ANGELES — A car and motorcycle show will raise money for a scholarship fund Saturday.
Between 100 and 150 hot rods, customs, classics, muscle cars and motorcycles are expected at the ninth annual Darlene Marihugh Cruz-in.
The show will start at 3 p.m. at Cowboy Country, 923 E. First St., and Puerto de Angeles Family Mexican Restaurant, 940 E. First St.
The show is free to the public. Donations from the public also are welcome.
The entry fee for participants is a $10-minimum donation to the scholarship fund.
Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5 each or five for $20.
Among raffle prizes are a waterfront room for one night with a free breakfast at the Red Lion Hotel in Port Angeles, a Seahawks Superbowl plaque donated by Jim’s Pharmacy, a one-night cabin stay at KOA Port Angeles and a pop-up canopy donated by John Wayne’s M&S Auto Service of Port Angeles.
High school scholarships
All proceeds will go to high school scholarships in memory of Darlene Marihugh, a longtime employee of Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles and an avid hot rodder who died Oct. 23, 2005, at the age of 40.
The cruz-in is the sole fundraiser for the Darlene Marihugh Memorial Scholarship.
Cowboy Country will conduct an outdoor sale and sell root beer floats, while Puerto de Angeles will offer menu specials.
Wayne “The Peregrine” King will exhibit and “fire off” his restored, record-setting, nitro-powered 1964 Doss Clayton & King Top Fuel Dragster.
Goodie bags will be given to the first 100 entries.
More than 115 door prizes will be given to participants displaying their cars and bikes at the event. Sixteen entries will be picked for special award plaques.
Recent Port Angeles High School graduate Keith Halsey received this year’s $2,000 scholarship.
He intends to attend Lineman College in Meridian, Idaho.
The show raised $3000 in 2013.
