Volunteer groups plan work parties at parks and creeks in Port Angeles, Chimacum and Port Townsend this weekend.
The Sequim Irrigation Festival royalty and members of the North Olympic Salmon Coalition welcome volunteers to help remove scotch broom at Morse Creek from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday.
Participants will meet at 33 Strait View Drive in Port Angeles.

Chimacum Creek
The North Olympic Salmon Coalition will host a volunteer tree planting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday along Chimacum Creek.
Tree roots provide shelter for juvenile salmon while holding the soil on the banks and preventing excessive erosion, the coalition said.
A shaded stream keeps the water cool, making it able to hold more dissolved oxygen, which salmon need to survive, it added in a news release.
Volunteers will park at 9332 Rhody Drive on the west side of the gravel driveway. Overflow parking will be across the street at the school.

Port Townsend
A work party will clear brush and make a pathway along the McClellan and 16th Street rights of way near Grant Street Elementary School from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The group will meet at Sherman and 16th streets — which is accessed from 14th Street. The best parking option is near the wooded side of 16th Street.
The short two-block, L-shaped section is the final link connecting a north-south pedestrian-bicycle corridor from North Beach to Port Townsend Bay on the west side of San Juan Valley.
It follows rights of way along the south and west boundaries of the school property.
Volunteers are asked to bring hand tools for clearing brush such as loppers, clippers and hand saws, maddox for removing roots and rakes, and wheelbarrows for hauling brush.
They should wear sturdy work boots and gloves.
The group will work, rain or shine, and will gather for snacks and hot beverages afterward.

Lagoon work party
Another Port Townsend work party is planned at the Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday.
Volunteers will park in the lot near the Kah Tai bathrooms and walk to the Benedict Street trail on the southeast side of the small pond.
They should look for a white pickup truck and a green volunteer sign.
Volunteers will pull scotch broom and pick up garbage. Tools and garbage bags will be provided as well as drinks and snacks.
