WEEKEND: ‘Celebrity’ waiter dinner Saturday final Pink Up Port Angeles fundraiser of year

PORT ANGELES — The final event of the 2014 Pink Up Port Angeles campaign is also traditionally one of the most popular — the “celebrity” waiter, all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner at Chestnut Cottage, set for this Saturday.

The $10 meal will be served at the restaurant at 929 E. Front St. from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with 10 waiters and several bus helpers vying for tips to raise money for Operation Uplift, a Port Angeles-based group that provides help and information for people with cancer.

The Chestnut Cottage dinner is “always one of our most fun evenings,” said Linda deBord, organizer of the annual Port Angeles Soroptimist Noon Club fundraiser.

Waiters will include such well-known Port Angeles people as Police Chief Terry Gallagher, City Manager Dan McKeen, Vonnie Mc-Knight and Kelly Ramond of Cherry Creek Mortgage, Terri Wood of First Federal and Sue Stoneman and Sue Roaf of the Peninsula Daily News.

Saturday’s dinner will be salad, garlic bread and spaghetti, with dessert, wine and beer available for additional fees.

The other events of the sixth annual Pink Up Port Angeles — which ranged from a dog walk to a golf tournament — were last week.

A gift basket from Franni’s Gift Expressions, worth about $700, will be raffled at the dinner, which is sponsored by First Federal, deBord said. Raffle tickets are $1 each.

DeBord suggested people arrive “around 6 p.m. or a little later” to get a seat.

Fundraiser success

Although Soroptimists have yet to count all the proceeds from last week’s Pink Up activities, the final tally may be close to the group’s $50,000 goal judging by the success of the bake sale last Saturday.

The sale of goods baked by Soroptimist members at Swain’s General Store brought in more than $1,400, deBord said.

“It was the best bake sale ever,” deBord said, adding that a gluten-free blackberry pie she baked was sold for $100.

All proceeds from Pink Up Port Angeles go to the nonprofit, all-volunteer cancer support group founded in Port Angeles in 1983.

Although it began as a breast cancer support group, it now provides services and support for men and woman with any type of cancer.
