URGENT: Remnants of Hurricane Ana off Hawaii to blow across Peninsula overnight; 50 mph gusts on West End

FORKS — Tonight will be windy along the Olympic Peninsula’s Pacific coast as remnants of Hurricane Ana — the storm that skirted the Hawaiian Islands five days ago — reaches the North West and British Columbia coasts.

Heavy rains also are predicted across the North Olympic Peninsula.

The National Weather Service in Seattle and Environment Canada in British Columbia issued wind advisories for roughly 8 o’clock this evening until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Gusts of up to 50 mph could occur on the West End, the Weather Service forecast.

“Winds will be increasing from the south or southeast 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph tonight,” an “urgent weather message” said this morning.

Gusts to 40 mph might occur in Port Angeles, Sequim, Clallam Bay-Sekiu and Port Townsend, today’s forecast said.

Up to 3 inches of rain is possible on the West End and in the Olympics, the Weather Service said. Snow level tonight will be 6,000 feet as the tropical storm blows across the Peninsula.
