PORT HADLOCK — Emergency food and shelter programs in Jefferson County are invited to apply for federal funds administered by United Good Neighbors.
The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Oct. 19.
Jefferson County has been awarded $14,200 in federal funds by the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program through the Department of Homeland Security.
Funding from the federal government is distributed to United Way organizations county by county on an annual basis and is determined by statistics on poverty and unemployment.
2015 cycle
Funds in this award are for the 2015 cycle and must be spent in the period between now and ending in March 2017, UGN said.
The emergency funds will be distributed to applicants from nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations or government entities that are working to help meet emergent needs for food and shelter in Jefferson County.
UGN has organized a local board of representatives of safety net organizations, the clergy and county leadership to review applications and make funding decisions.
Previous funding
UGN has distributed Emergency Food and Shelter funds previously to Jefferson County Food Banks, Dove House, Olympic Community Action Programs, COAST Homeless Shelter, the Boiler Room Food Program and St. Vincent De Paul.
Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for funds can submit cover letters and applications.
