SEQUIM — Two Sequim High School janitors have been arrested following an investigation into the theft of thousands of dollars of campus electronic equipment since last fall.
Glen A. Jonientz, 24, of Sequim and Peter A. Norton, 48, of Port Angeles are under investigation for first-degree possession of stolen property, a felony.
During the search of Jonientz’s house, Sequim police reportedly found illegal drugs and arrested Cynthia A. Haynes, 22, for possession of a controlled substance.
Additional charges may be coming from the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, according to a police statement.
All three have been released from detention, and formal charges are scheduled to be filed today.
Suspended from jobs
Both men have been suspended from their jobs, said Sequim Schools Superintendent Garn Christensen.
The stolen equipment included projectors, computers and digital cameras.
Police began investigating the thefts last fall and eventually gathered enough information to obtain search warrants for the janitors’ homes.
“You look at many factors,” said Sequim Police Chief Robert Spinks.
“You do your investigation and prove people innocent until you get to a point where you can’t do that anymore, and then you develop persons of interest.
“That’s what happened in this case.”
