FORKS — A discussion series at the Forks Library will look into something everyone has in common: trash.
Talking Trash @ the Forks Library will feature three discussions led by local and state experts that will cover a range of waste-related topics, from the challenges of household garbage management to the accumulating debris on beaches.
Admission to the series at the library at 171 S. Forks Ave. is free through support from the Friends of the Forks Library. Pre-registration is not required.
Each session will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The first in the series will be a composting workshop led by Meggan Uecke, Washington State University waste reduction coordinator, on Wednesday,
Aug. 20.
Uecke will discuss strategies for reducing household waste and creating compost for home gardens.
On Wednesday, Sept. 3, Trisa Katsikapes, the designer of the Forks library remodel, will offer tips and share ideas for repurposing trash-bound items into home-spun treasures.
The series concludes Wednesday, Sept. 10, with Jon Schmidt of Washington CoastSavers.
He will lead a discussion about increasing debris on ocean shores and how to get involved in cleanup efforts.
The catalog for the North Olympic Library System — which oversees public libraries in Forks, Clallam Bay, Port Angeles and Sequim — has materials about recycling, upcycling and composting .
