Third memorial set Monday for fallen Coast Guardsmen

LAPUSH — A third memorial will be held Monday for the three members of the Coast Guard who died in a helicopter crash off of LaPush on July 7.

Officials with the 13th Coast Guard District will conduct the memorial service at 1 p.m. at the Coast Guard Station Quillayute River in LaPush.

At least 1,000 people attended a Tuesday memorial service in Sitka that paid tribute to Lt. Sean D. Krueger, 33, of Seymour, Conn.; Aircraft Maintenance Technician 1st Class Adam C. Hoke, 40, of Great Falls, Mont.; and Aircraft Maintenance Technician 2nd Class Brett M. Banks, 33, of Rock Springs, Wyo.

About 50 people attended a Sunday memorial service held in LaPush by the Quileute tribe.

Commander of the 13th District, Rear Adm. Gary Blore will be at Monday’s ceremony, according to the Coast Guard.

The names of other speakers and attendees were not available Thursday.

The Coast Guard has invited local politicians and members of the Quileute tribe to the ceremony as well.

The three men died as they were flying home from Astoria, Ore., when their MH-60T Jayhawk struck power lines spanning the mouth of the Quillayute River from First Beach to James Island and crashed into the water.

The Coast Guard has said it will be some time before officials declare a cause of the crash.

Witnesses said the aircraft was flying low and hit power lines at James Island.
